“This resource has a wonderful variety of pictures, poetry and solid information covering the arrival of the Europeans through the first century of European settlement. The added impact of the resource is that it has an almost colonial look about the pages ... all the illustrations are hand drawn and have a delightful direct link with the text.”

Janette’s PICTURES & STORIES of AUSTRALIAN HISTORY
These resources are all about sharing the fascinating story of Australian History with your children. Every child should know the story of their own special country and this set of PICTURES and book of STORIES have been designed so that children will ENJOY doing just that! Travel back in time to meet the characters, the adventurers; to see the places and learn the lessons of the past right here, to share together!
THE PICTURES ... were inspired by a desire to share Australian history with my own children and a need for such a resource. I have researched, sourced, designed and illustrated over 140 black & white pictures from historical works to create timeline figures or scenes from our past. The first 100 years. Then composed rhymes and/or notes to go with each to tell the story. The 35 pages when purchased are fully reproducible for colouring, enlarging, reading and learning within the home or classroom at the appropriate price (click on SAMPLE PAGES/PICTURES at top of screen). The set of pictures is available to purchase in either in paper copy or on CD! ...... On CD you can view, enlarge and print from your computer.
THE BOOK ...The Pictures go with the book, the book tells you which picture to have ready to look at and read together (each one has a rhyme or notes). Then, while you are reading that chapter of the book aloud, the children can colour and perhaps add to their very own Australian History Journals (or notebooks), along with their own answers to the questions, thoughts, drawings and observations (these will come up along the way). [Or, if you would prefer something more simple for your youngest, they could just pin the coloured pictures along a wall as a kind of timeline.] The resource is designed so that children can keep their hands busy while you read but at the same time the book is not 'dumbed down' at all. It is a series of stories, and you can share as you go, with the children learning many things along with the history; eg new vocabulary, sciences like our Australian botany and geography with the explorers etc etc. The book goes with over half the set of Pictures. ...
This BIG A4 sized book is a journey through Australian history. You will be travelling back in time discovering the stories, the people, the happenings and the places, of early colonial Australia ... the 'Aborigines and the Colonies' ... Just as 'Janette's Pictures of Australian History', (the first 100 years) were drawn after historical works, these stories are written after the actual journals and diaries of the people of the day, to take you back to where and when it all happened. Read and experience Australia as she once was, in their shoes, so to speak! Re-discover your country, find out what really happened. Not just the cold hard facts but the stories behind them, get to know Australia and her history a great deal better. What happened where? Who did what, when? How our culture grew? What life was like and how much has changed! The discoveries, the many Aboriginal people, all over the land; meeting the Maori people too and experiencing New Zealand. The hard journeys across Australia, the struggles; building the colonies, how the country was run; the dramas, the triumphs, the tragedies, the humour too; and those things that grew out of it all, to make Australia, Australian.
**The book comes with 3 NEW ADDITIONAL PAGES of PICTURES AS WELL, mainly relating to the new chapters on New Zealand!** The book also has questions, discussions and activities to choose from for reinforcement.
SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS: Now parents, children and educators can share this subject together, learning in an enjoyable way. The simple idea is to follow the book along, it has instructions for reading the Pictures together, then colouring whilst sharing the stories. These resources are packed with information and details, questions, discussions, imaginings and are suitable for all ages. WARNING: I suggest that teachers pre-read before sharing with younger or more sensitive children, ‘Australia’ began as a series of penal colonies and life was rough!
Janette’s Pictures and stories have an engaging and entertaining style to open children’s minds and help them enjoy learning. As well they are multisensory, the pictures give the children something VISUAL; through the colouring and cutting using the sense of TOUCH, and through reading aloud you engage the sense of LISTENING also. This all makes an extremely effective learning tool and one which provides KEYS to unlock the learner’s memory.
